Phase 3 of the Canton Fair features a massive sector dedicated to rain gear: from cheap promotional umbrellas to heavy-duty golf umbrellas and high-tech waterproof jackets.
Umbrellas are deceptively complex mechanical devices. They contain dozens of tiny hinges, springs, and tension rods. If a factory cuts corners on the metallurgy of a single hinge, the entire product fails upon its first use in a storm.

## 2. The Pongee Fabric Upgrade
When a customer touches your umbrella, the fabric dictates the perceived value immediately.
* **The Reality:** Cheap umbrellas use standard Polyester or Nylon. When the rain stops and the customer closes the umbrella, it remains soaking wet, dripping all over the floor.
* **The Upgrade:** You must specify the use of **Pongee Fabric**. Pongee is a specialized, densely woven fabric that is naturally highly water-resistant. When combined with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) or Teflon coating, the umbrella is completely dry with one quick shake.
## 3. Rainwear (The Waterproof vs. Water-Resistant Lie)
If you are sourcing rain jackets or ponchos, you must understand the legal and technical difference between "Water-Resistant" and "Waterproof."
* **The Trap:** A factory sells you a "Waterproof" jacket. Your customer wears it in a heavy downpour, and within 10 minutes, their shoulders are soaked.
* **The Flaw:** The factory used a waterproof fabric, but they did not **Tape the Seams**. When a needle sews two pieces of fabric together, it punches thousands of tiny holes in the waterproof membrane. Water will rush straight through those holes.
