The aesthetic design of Chinese watches is world-class, often utilizing premium materials like Sapphire crystal and 316L stainless steel. However, the value of a watch is dictated entirely by its invisible internal engine: the movement.

2. The 316L Stainless vs. Zinc Alloy Lie

A factory shows you a heavy, shiny silver watch case. It looks identical to a high-end luxury watch.

• The Trap: Cheap factories use Zinc Alloy (which is cast in a mold) and plate it with a thin layer of chrome. After a month of sweat exposure, the chrome rubs off, the alloy corrodes, and the wearer's wrist turns green.
• The Fix: You must explicitly demand "316L Surgical Grade Stainless Steel" in your Proforma Invoice. Stainless steel must be CNC machined, not cast, making it much more expensive but completely corrosion-resistant. Your QC inspector can use a chemical testing fluid to verify if the metal is genuine 316L steel or cheap alloy.

3. The Waterproof Rating Deception

A factory will print "30M Water Resistant" or "3 ATM" on the dial.

• The Reality: 30M does NOT mean you can dive 30 meters underwater. In the watch industry, 3 ATM simply means it can survive a light splash while washing hands. If you swim with a 3 ATM watch, it will flood instantly.
• The Action: If you are marketing a "Dive Watch" or an activewear watch, you must demand a 5 ATM or 10 ATM rating. More importantly, the factory must prove this by showing you the pressure testing machines on their assembly line. Every single watch must pass the air-pressure test before boxing.
