Powering Up: Buying Solar & Energy Storage
The "New Energy" section of the Canton Fair (Phase 1) has exploded in size. China dominates the entire solar supply chain.
1. Key Categories
- PV Modules: Monocrystalline panels (PERC, TOPCon, HJT tech).
- Inverters: String inverters, Micro-inverters, Hybrid inverters.
- Energy Storage (ESS): Residential powerwalls, Portable power stations, Containerized industrial storage.
2. Tier 1 vs. Tier 2
- Tier 1 Brands: (Longi, Jinko, Trina). They have massive booths. Prices are fixed and high. MOQs are huge.
- Tier 2/3 Factories: They often use the same cells but assemble them in smaller factories. Good for smaller distributors who want their own brand (OEM).
3. Shipping Lithium Batteries
This is the hardest part.
- Dangerous Goods (DG): Lithium batteries are Class 9 Dangerous Goods.
- UN38.3 Certificate: You CANNOT ship without this. Ask for it immediately.
- Shipping: Shipping costs for batteries are high. Ensure your margin calculation includes DG shipping fees.
4. Warranty Reality
- Suppliers promise "25 Year Warranty".
- Reality: Will the factory exist in 25 years? Probably not. Rely on third-party insurance or buy from established giants if warranty is your main selling point.
Summary
The tech moves fast. Currently, N-Type TOPCon cells are the hot product. If a supplier is pushing old P-Type Poly panels, offer them a liquidation price.
