Shining a Light on Sourcing: LED Products at Canton Fair

China produces 80% of the world's lighting. If you are in the lighting business, Canton Fair Phase 1 is your pilgrimage.

1. Location: Area B

The Lighting Hall (usually Hall 12.2 and 13.2 in Area B) is dazzling.

  • Commercial Lighting: Street lights, High bay lights (industrial).
  • Decorative Lighting: Chandeliers, LED strips, Neon.
  • Smart Lighting: Wi-Fi/Zigbee bulbs.

2. Key Specs to Check

When talking to suppliers, ask these three questions immediately to filter the traders from the factories:

  • "What LED chips do you use?" (Epistar, Philips, Cree, Sanan?).
  • "What driver is inside?" (The driver fails before the bulb. Ask for MeanWell or Lifud if you want quality).
  • "Show me your integrating sphere report." (Real factories have this testing equipment on site).

3. The "Guzhen" Connection

Most factories are located in Guzhen (The Lighting Capital), just 45 minutes from Guangzhou by train.

  • Strategy: Meet at the fair, then visit their factory in Guzhen the next day. The prices in Guzhen showrooms are often lower than fair prices.

4. Tariff Codes (HS Codes)

  • Be aware of the HS Code for LEDs (usually 9405.40). Anti-dumping duties exist for some countries (like USA/EU). Ask if the supplier has experience with your specific country's regulations.

Summary

Don't be blinded by the bright lights. Focus on the Drivers and Heat Sinks. That is where the quality lives.
