Sleep Economy: Sourcing Mattresses
Phase 2. This is a "Bed in a Box" world.
1. Key technologies
- Pocket Spring: Individual coils. Better isolation.
- Memory Foam: Cooling gel infused.
- Latex: Natural (expensive) or Synthetic.
2. Bed in a Box
- Can the factory compress the mattress?
- Machine: Roll-packing machines are expensive. Ensure they have a good one. Poor compression ruins the springs.
- Recovery Time: Ask: "How long to expand?" (24-48 hours is normal).
3. Fire Retardant (FR) Regulations
- USA: CFR 1633. Mandatory.
- UK: BS 7177. Extremely strict (Match test / Cigarette test).
- Warning: Many Chinese domestic mattresses have ZERO fire resistance. You must specify the export standard.
Summary
The margin is in the foam density. Don't go below 25D for base foam or it will collapse in 3 months.
